Things to do in Eilat
Eilat is definitely the first choice for Recreation in Israel. Surrounded by a colorful (yes! colorful!!) desert and the Red Sea with its amazing Coral Reef, where you can swim ALL YEAR ROUND made Eilat into a first-class tourist attraction not only for Israelis, but also for tourists from all over the world.
Eilat offers more than 15000 hotel-rooms of all categories. Eilat's warm climate makes it comfortable to swim even during the winter, when water-temperatures never drop below 18 degrees centigrade! ...and there are tourist attractions for each and everyone in Eilat: The Underwater Observatory, which was the first of its kind, the Dolphin Reef, which is the only place in the world where you can swim and dive with free dolphins, mountain-bikes, rappelling and more... There are also some less natural attractions such as the "Kings City" thematic amusement park or the IMAX theatre screening 3D movies on a giant screen. You can sail on the colorful coral reef in different types of glass-bottom boats, even hire a see-through canoe (!) or enjoy a broad palette of all kinds of water-sport activities varying from paragliding and up to scuba- and "SNUBA"-diving. There are countless restaurants in Eilat, of all types and categories. The most known are "The Last Refuge" (Fish & Seafood) and "Eddie's Getaway" (Meat) Restaurants that are proud of a legacy of more than 40 years of excellence! It is not hard to find Night-Clubs in Eilat, as most of the "action" in town takes place during the night. Most of the pubs in Eilat open only a couple of hours before midnight and close only at dawn. Located 10 min. drive from the borders, Eilat is a good starting-point for daily tours to Petra in Jordan, St. Catherine - Sinai and Cairo in Egypt and Jerusalem or The Dead Sea in Israel. It is only half an hour away from the Hai Bar Biblical Nature Reserve, Kibbutz Yotvata and the Timna Park, with its enchanted landscapes of "Salomons Pillars" and the excavations of the most ancient copper-mines in the world! The colorful desert with its ever-changing landscapes invites you to go on a jeep-tour into the desert, or drive 1.5 hours to the "Ramon Crater" - a unique geological phenomena, only to be found in Israel! All these tours can be conducted either from the Eilat Hotels, or also from the Eilat Port (for people on shore-excursions from a cruise ship).
You can also easily reach Eilat on domestic flights from the Tel Aviv (TLV) Ben Gurion, Tel Aviv Sde Dov (SDV) and Haifa Airports. If you are looking for a cheap flight to Eilat the best thing to do is to take a flight on Saturday afternoon, as this is when all the Israelis spending the weekend in Eilat return to Tel Aviv... There are also regular Bus-connections to Eilat from Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, The Dead Sea and other locations. Due to its location right between Aqaba in Jordan and Taba in Egypt many tourists cross from Jordan to Egypt or vice versa through Eilat, even without staying over-night in the city.
Recently Eilat has become a popular holiday destination for visitors from Russia, Poland and Western Europe who book a charter-package to Eilat and hence it is possible to obtain cheap hotel prices in eilat for those staying more than 6 nights in Eilat.
